A Few Good White Men

In this episode, I'm responding to an article that was posted on LinkedIn and written by Thomas Hobbs, a retired Marine Corps Colonel. In his article, "The Marine Corps: Always Faithful…to White Men," he advances the notion that minority officers are lacking and substandard. As a prior Marine officer myself, I vehemently object to such a foolish notion. Listen in and tell me what you think. Read Hobbs' article here: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/marine-corps-always-faithfulto-white-men-thomas-k-hobbs/.

I would like to chat with you about your Podcast in response to Col Hobbs. I am an AA Infantry Officer Col Select. I was a former rifle platoon Commander and XO for Col Hobbs when he was a company commander, so I have a pretty good perspective on this man’s character - all positive. So let’s chat and I can expend upon some of your points made and other considerations.Jonesqd@me.com

2. In the swimming, shooting, navigation discussion there seems to be a lot of misperception. Body density plays a huge part in swimming. Over my time in the service I noticed some black officers that could swim well. Most of us were decent. Spanish and Asians had a hard time as well. One would say it’s biased because it’s something the majority does well. The navigation test is what it is. People struggle while some do well without any regard to color. I have witnessed some guys help each other in navigation test. The shooting discussion is funny because they will tell you places like Chicago and Southern California are so bad because minorities are shooting all the time. So which one is it? And when you go to the range they tell they have to break down your shooting mechanics to show you the proper way to shot again. That’s for the majority and minority soldiers.

1. You have to consider that some majority officers end up as bottom third as well and you have to ask how that happens.
